Benefits of VoIP

VoIP technology greatly enhances your phone system.  Not only does VoIP significantly cut cost telecommunication expense, in most cases it is much easier for the end user to operate the system.  VoIP is an ever expanding technology and reaching into new communities where it was not always available.  New features are constantly being developed and companies are finding ways to cut cost, not only for themselves but the end user as well.

Most companies are using already telephone systems in multiple ways.  Older, legacy phone systems have become almost obsolete for the business community.  Traditional phones and fax lines are generally fixed to one location and system features leave much to be desired.  Phone portability, text messaging, video conferencing, faxing, and more can be accomplished with VoIP technology.  The old days of paying for long distance charges are also over.  For everyday consumers, companies now offer Long Distance calling plans with nationwide coverage as low as $0.0057 per minute.  That’s a just over a half of 1 cent per minute.

Some VoIP technologies actually are free to consumers.  Companies like Skype are offering free VoIP calling, instant messaging, and video calling from Skype to Skype accounts.  How do they accomplish this you may ask?  VoIP technology is fairly inexpensive to maintain.   If the consumer already has access to the internet, Skype to Skype calls simply flow over your internet connection with little cost to Skype.  Additional paid services that Skype offers is how they are able to recoup any lost revenue from their free services.  Of course this is a simplified overview.

Another example of a free VoIP services is Star Communication‘s Free Toll-Free SIP Trunk.   This applies to outbound calls made to Toll Free numbers in the USA.  When outbound calls to Toll Free numbers are sent across Star Communication’s VoIP network, Starcom is compensated by traditional phone companies for a direct SIP to Tandem hand-off.  How is this possible you may ask?   Toll Free numbers are a business’s life line.  When a potential customer calls a Toll Free number in the USA, the business who is paying for the Toll Free number wants every call to complete and wants the best voice quality.   Traditional phone service providers ultimately own all of the available Toll Free numbers in the US and Canada.  Companies like Verizon, AT&T, ect.  They are compensated handsomely by businesses who purchase these Toll Free numbers.  In turn the traditional phone carriers want the shortest path to complete the call. That’s where Stacom’s Toll-free Termination product comes in.   This is another case that shows a completely free application and how inexpensive VoIP technology can be.

Many bright people are developing new VoIP services every day.  Some are just having fun with a hobby and maybe creating a free app for their family and friends to use.  Others are working for large corporations to find the newest and most innovative technology.  Or they may be finding ways to cut telecommunications cost overall or make them free.  Our global economy will become even more connected in the future.

What is A-Z Termination in VoIP?

A-Z Termination, also known as Afghanistan to Zimbabwe Termination, implies that a VoIP Carrier offers VoIP  Termination routes over the entire globe.  Listing all of the countries in the world, in alphabetical order, Afghanistan comes first and Zimbabwe last.   It makes sense to abbreviate the two.

Other abbreviations such as A-Z cc CLI, A-Z CLI, A-Z NCLI often seem like a mouth full.  They’re just a few relatively simple terms that represent the type of A-Z Termination route the Carrier offers.

A-Z cc CLI stands for A-Z Call Center CLI termination.  The CLI acronym stands for Caller Line Identification.  CLI implies that the Caller ID of the Caller with be portrayed to the call-recipient.  Call Centers and large businesses typically have low  ALOC.  Thus network demand on the Carrier is greater which typically leads to more expensive rates to compensate for the load.  Short duration, Call Center, traffic typically has an ALOC below 1 minute.

A-Z CLI implies the Carrier offers VoIP termination across the globe and will portray the Caller ID of the Caller to the recipient.  A-Z CLI offers will give the lowest PDD (Post Dial Delay) and offer the clearest audio.  Most carriers expect an ALOC above 1 minute over a A-Z CLI route.   A-Z CLI routes are less expensive than A-Z cc CLI.

A-Z NCLI is an offer that has global coverage but does not guarantee the Caller ID will be displayed to the recipient.  Most often this is best attempt at displaying Caller ID and is sometimes referred to as a grey route.  NCLI routes can be the least expensive but are more difficult to manage without CLI.  ALOC requirements for NCLI are negotiable with each carrier.

Looking for A-Z Termination?  Star Communication offers VoIP services across the globe and unlimited capacity for most destinations.  Check out our latest A-Z cc CLI and A-Z CLI rate decks here
